The Ladies Tiny Egg color: Light brownTiny is the Head Hen of the coop. Named because at hatch, she was the smallest chick of the clutch. She has not only grown in size, but her attitude is larger than life. Tangles Egg color: Light brownTangles was so named because as a young pullet, she appeared to have no comb… Get it? no comb? so she has tangles?… not funny? well, it stuck, so I kept it. She is Tiny’s right wing hen, and fierce enforcer of order. Inga Egg color: Light pinkInga is 1/2 of the duo named after my great-grandmother Ingeborg and her sister. I named her when they were very young and did not yet have much personality. since then, Inga has grown to be a rather… slow witted, chicken. I’ve considered renaming her because I can almost feel my grandma scowling down on me for naming a dumb chicken after her. Uschi Egg color: Light pinkUschi is named after my great grandma’s sister, Ursula. She is a calm, sweet chicken. She is the only one of the flock to have gone broody and successfully hatched a clutch of chicks. Pearl Egg color: Light BluePearl and her two sisters are the spitfires of the flock. I’m convinced that she is part roadrunner. First out of the run when the gate opens, Pearl is definitely training for chicken Olympics. Opal Egg color: Light BlueOpal is the slightly more reasonable one of the trio. However, only slightly. She can be found playing referee between Pearl and Sapphire, raising her head crest to flag fowl play. Sapphire Egg color: Light BlueSapphire is an eagle at heart. She can be spotted easily as the only chicken who regularly tries to fly instead of run. Her high hops give her an advantage in her regular tiffs with Opal. Char Egg color: Dark brownChar and her sister don’t want anything to do with coop politics. They keep to themselves and out of everybody's way. Black 1 is an excellent forager, often the first to find the best spots to scratch and graze. Coal Egg color: Dark brownCoal sticks close to Char, taking turns standing watch while the other eats. She is calm and collected, even when others may be startled.
